Dr Ann Marie Sidhu
Profile
Ann Marie is
a Director of sustainability services. She is a Fellow Chartered Accountant
(FCA) and a GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) Certified Sustainability
Professional. She has many years experience in a Big 4 accounting firm reaching
senior manager level covering corporate insolvency, audit & assurance
services for a variety of clients from
manufacturing, banking, hospitality and healthcare. After professional practice
Ann Marie moved into academia working for universities in UK, Malaysia and
Australia where she engaged in teaching
and research in the areas of accounting, finance and economics and more specifically
corporate reporting and sustainability accounting. She was also a part time trainer for ICAEW
and ACCA and worked on the industry degree programme collaboration between PwC,
ICAEW and Newcastle University in the UK.
Ann Marie’s
most recent post has been as Programme Director for the Edinburgh Business
School MBA at Heriot Watt University. The MBA is geared towards educating the
next generation of business leaders primarily from mid level management level
of well known international and local corporations. She was responsible for the
overall leadership and coordination of the programme including financial
management, liaising with industry partners, tailor-made proposals, quality
assurance and day to day management. She also taught on the programme in the
area of financial decision making.
Her PhD
(awarded in 2018) relates to sustainable development through the Clean
Development Mechanism in Malaysian companies. As part of her research, Ann
Marie spent time interviewing top executives including CEOs and Sustainability
Directors to gather data for analysis using the Global Reporting Initiative as
part of the analysis framework.
She has
presented at international conferences in Portugal, Australia and New Zealand.
Her most recent publication in 2021 examined conceptions of sustainability in
Malaysian companies and was published by Accounting, Auditing and
Accountability Journal Vol.
34 No. 5, pp. 1220-1245. She has been a guest reviewer for the Journal of
Environment and Development in 2020.
More
recently, Ann Marie has facilitated workshops on Governance to Board members/national
directors of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and has
been a panellist on the Future of Corporate Reporting for the Malaysian
Institute of Accountant’s Financial Management Conference 2022: Education the
key to Sustainable Development. Her current scope of work involves training and
advisory to business and government leaders in
sustainability reporting.
Ann Marie
believes that the key to advancing sustainability outcomes is the capacity
building of ESG literate business and government leaders through research,
training and advisory support.
